Global and local revisions create a powerful impact on an essay as it makes it stronger and continues to help me grow as a writer. Throughout my writing process, from my first draft to my final, I made lots of global revisions. One of them being reorganizing my paragraphs or even sentences to make my essay flow better. I also fully reread it each time after writing a new paragraph to make sure I stayed on point, deleted unnecessary sentences, and maintained a good structure. Another global revision is making sure I had a strong thesis with a clear point. While meeting with Alexa, she helped me make my thesis stronger and narrow down my point, creating a clearer understanding for why and what the readers are reading. In my first draft my starting thesis was “Without technology we wouldn’t be where we are in the world today on a positive aspect but as for human potential, we need to fix the arising problems”. But, by the end of my final revisions, I successfully had a strong thesis which was: “This disconnection between people shows in everyday life through the lack of conversations. They bring us close to people and we grow up to realize what our personal standards and beliefs are and who we want to be around through listening and conversating”. Having a strong thesis is very important because it’s what names the central point of your essay for the readers to understand. After making sure I have a strong structured essay I moved onto my local revisions where I made sure I had strong vocabulary, not too long of sentences and transition sentences. Going back to my 1200+ draft I shortened a lot of sentences compared to my final because while working through my essay I would go back and make sure that I used the best words I could or even take some out. I also reread to make sure my sentences weren’t too lengthy and that I didn’t have any repetition with my ideas. Throughout this year I have learned lots of new self-revision techniques from the class itself and the class peer reviews. With an open mind I was able to be self-aware of my mistakes and learn new techniques on how I can improve my essay.
